| Clothing
A short sleeved t-shirt and shorts will help to keep you cool. Tracksuit bottoms are also a good option, but make sure they are not too long or you will trip over them! A warm sweatshirt or hoodie is also useful to keep your muscles warm on your way home, especially in the winter
Sports Bra
Badminton is a high impact activity, so for women, wearing a well fitting sports bra will make playing more comfortable and prevent any bounce!
Socks and Trainers
Badminton shoes or lace up trainers provide the best support for your feet and will help prevent injury. A good grip on the sole and around your toes is important as this will prevent your foot from slipping and sliding, however, shoes with black soles not allowed on court as they mark the floor.
Wearing socks with your trainers will help to prevent blisters - cotton sport socks are ideal as they absorb sweat and help to keep your feet dry.
Badminton Racket
You will find many different makes and prices of racket but if you are just starting out you should probably hire your equipment from the sports centre. If you want to buy your own you should go for a racket that feels comfortable, balanced, flexible and strong enough for the string tension you require.
Shuttlecock
There are two kinds of shuttlecock - plastic or feather. If you are starting out you would benefit from using the plastic shuttlecocks as they last longer and are cheaper - again most leisure centres will provide these on request.
