Clothing
A short-sleeved t-shirt and shorts will help to keep you cool if you are playing indoors. Tracksuit bottoms are also a good option, but make sure they do not cover your foot as this will make playing the game a lot harder! If you are playing outdoors just add thin layers on top, so that you can remove them as you warm up. Depending on the weather conditions, you may also need a water and windproof layer, such as a jacket to keep warm.
Sports Bra
Football is a high impact activity, so for women, wearing a well fitting sports bra will make playing more comfortable and prevent any bounce!
Football Trainers / Boots
Your footwear should be selected according to the surface you are playing on. Trainers are suitable for some surfaces, such as a sports hall, some artificial surfaces and dry grass. If you are playing on a regular basis it is a good idea to buy footwear designed specifically for the surface you are playing on, as this will help your game. Most sports shops stock a good range and staff will be able to help you to select the correct pair.
Shin Guards
You should always wear shin guards when you are playing football to reduce the risk of injury during a tackle. Shin guards are available in a number of different materials and styles. Pick the pair that you feel most comfortable in and that offer a good level of protection.
Socks
Some types of shin guards will require you to wear football socks to help keep the shin guard in place.
Football Shirt
If you are playing for a team then they will probably have some sort of ‘kit’ for games. Some teams just wear matching colour bibs, others have full team kit that they provide for players.
