Jogging, the next step

You've completed the beginners jogging programme and are now ready to move on. To continue progressing you need to set another goal - perhaps to jog faster or further or to take part in a 5K race. Here are a few ideas to keep your moving.

Keep jogging for fun

Set your own goals and continue to progress at your own pace. Try varying where you jog and the surface you jog on to keep things fresh and avoid injury. For a bit of help with planning and progressing your training take a look at the Kickstart Running pages.

Jog with friends

Persuade your friends to go out jogging with you and keep encouraging each other. It’s much harder to stay on the sofa if you are going to let your friends down. If you can’t persuade a friend to join you, find a training partner with Fitness Friends.

Train for a race

You may find it easier to stick with your training if you set yourself the goal of completing a 5k or 10k race. It doesn’t matter how quickly you finish, it’s all about challenging yourself. Have a look at our 5k and 10k guides in the Kickstart Running section to help you plan your training for running your first race.

Visit the Runners World website to find a local race

Join a club

Running clubs are a great way to meet other people who like jogging and runner and you can get some good advice and tips from other club members. Many clubs run specific sessions for beginners. To find your nearest club visit Lidnet.
