Clothing (tops)
Start with a short sleeved top or vest and just add thin layers on top according to the weather conditions. This means that you can remove layers and tie them around your waist as you become warmer. Clothing should allow you to move freely, but not be too baggy, as it will get in your way.
Clothing (bottoms)
Tracksuit bottoms are the most popular choice. Again, choose clothing that allows free movement but isn’t too baggy or long- you don’t want to trip over! Shorts or ¾ length running tights will keep you cool in the summer.
Jacket
In cooler weather a waterproof and windproof layer, such as a jacket, is useful to keep out the wind and rain.
Sports bra
Running is a high impact activity, so for women, wearing a well fitting sports bra will make running more comfortable and prevent any bounce!
Trainers and socks
Trainers are the most important piece of kit for any runner. Make sure you pick a pair that is specifically designed for running. If you are not sure, most sports stores have trained staff that will be able to help you pick the right ones. Wearing socks with your trainers will help to prevent blisters - cotton sport socks are ideal as they absorb sweat and help to keep your feet dry.
Hat and gloves
A woolly hat and gloves will keep you warm in the winter and a hat with a visor will help you keep cool and prevent dehydration in hotter weather.
